Birth photography is such an exciting and unpredictable type of work. It could be quick or take all day. You never know what will happen. As a wedding photographer, birth photography isn’t something that I am able to do very often. You need to be able to be on call for your moms and be able to come at a moments notice. They schedule you ahead of time so that you have a small idea of when it might happen but you still have no clue what time of day or even what day it might happen. Sometimes things get scheduled but even then it could be the next day before the new baby makes it’s appearance.
Since I wouldn’t want to take a chance on having to miss a birth because it happens on the day of a wedding, I don’t take birth clients. But over the last couple of years, I have had a few close friends and family that were willing to take the risk of me not being able to come and still book me to do their births. I am so happy that I was able to do them. It is such a wonderful experience to be there and share in that moment.
The Babbs
My favorite pictures to take are those that show the emotion of a moment so someone meeting their child for the first time is exciting for me. Jared and Sammy already have a rambunctious little boy named George. He was so excited to meet his new little sister or brother. They went in early that morning to get things moving along. But they didn’t have to wait too long for things to speed up and this little boy to arrive.
When the doctor looked up at them and said “it’s a boy” they both looked so happy. George came in first to meet his new baby brother. After the new family of four spent a little time together they brought in the rest of the family to meet him and facetimed with any family that couldn’t make it.
I haven’t mentioned it yet, but Jared and Sammy are my cousins so I’m really proud of this handsome little boy. I can’t wait to watch him grow. Congratulations you guys!
