December Wedding in Downtown Jackson
Just as the year is ending and I think I have done the final wedding of the year I get a message for a December wedding in downtown Jackson. When I get called for weddings at the courthouse, I never really know what to expect. Some are super quick and simple. No one really dresses up they just want to be officially married. There’s something sweet and special about those but there typically isn’t a lot to photograph once the ceremony is over.
The Courthouse
I went into this downtown wedding not knowing what to expect. We didn’t have a lot of communication leading up to the wedding day. I knew they wanted pictures during the ceremony and then to go to a park after to take some photos of the family. So as I drove up to the courthouse I didn’t know what to expect. There’s something stressful but also exciting about that for me. I’ve always liked being organized and ready for what’s to come, especially when it comes to weddings.
I did notice that morning that it was overcast and there was a chance of rain during a lot of the day. I had gotten in touch with The New Southern to rent us a little time there just in case we ended up with rain and nowhere for the family photos. As I was parking I saw a big family on the steps taking photos. There had just been a wedding. I double-checked that I was indeed early, not late. I went inside to find some familiar joking from security and the officiant that I normally see there as he was going out to lunch. To my relief, in walked a gorgeous family fully dressed in wedding attire.
The Wedding
As they all came in with gorgeous attire and adorable kids I introduced myself and they went in to get their license. They had hired a notary service to officiate their marriage. She arrived just as they were done with the license. We decided to go to The New Southern ballroom to do the service. It was a beautiful backdrop for them since they were all so elegantly dressed. Once they were married we all went down the road to The University of Memphis Lambuth to do some outdoor pictures of them all.
