The New Southern Family Portraits
It’s so wonderful in the cold months to have a gorgeous place to photograph families with giant arched windows, decorative historic architecture, and window light on even the cloudiest day. The New Southern is that place for me. No one wants to get a baby out in the cold, wind or rain. And to be fair, not a lot of adults want to go out in that either. So in the winter months, I love that the option is there to rent some of the local buildings to do photos in. It’s more versatile than a studio backdrop and a lot more fun for the kids to run around in if they are big enough.
The Franklins
This week I had scheduled a family session with a new family and of course, it was too cold to schedule it outside. So we planned to meet at The New Southern and get to know each other a bit while capturing some memories of this family. Little did we know it would be in the 70s and sunny that day in February. I really enjoyed getting to meet Joyce and her family.
Little KJ had just woken from his nap on the drive over so he was giving the most fantastic frowny faces. He has the most expressive eyebrows. He kept raising one and then the other at me while trying to figure out exactly who I was and why in the world I kept holding a camera up in front of his face. I know that at that age a photography session has to seem so extremely odd to them. Taken to a strange place and everyone talking and trying to get you to smile for an extended period of time. I’m sure we as adults would even frown if we were in the same strange position. They were a fun family to work with and I think we got some great images showing personality as they joked with one another.
