Until Covid, I had not been asked to photograph a wedding at the courthouse. More and more people are making the decision to do so and I’m so glad I get to be a part of it. There’s something special about a very intimate little ceremony with just a handful of people. This downtown wedding was no different.
Kathleen called me so excited about her upcoming marriage. We discussed how things would go and what they had planned to do that day. Just hearing the excitement in Kathleen’s voice made it impossible not to look forward to the day. They drove over in Barry’s gorgeous car that Kathleen calls “baby” due to the fact that Barry babies it so much. And I totally see why. It was such a fun car.
We made our way into the courthouse in downtown Jackson TN and went to the office for them to get their licenses. I waited outside the door until they were ready and we went out onto the lawn under a giant tree to get them married. I have worked with the officiant several times now and he is quite the storyteller. He has tons of stories so he likes to add one or two in while performing the ceremony.
Once we were done the three of us went out and wandered around downtown a bit to take a few portraits of them. It was a beautiful day for a downtown wedding and even though it was a tad humid there was a great breeze. I had a great time meeting Barry and Kathleen and wish them lots of love and luck in the future.
